Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication. We have a bold vision: everyone involved in a patient’s care - including the patient - should be able to communicate with each other, and we believe every NHS staff member should be using our software to make that happen. We want to make healthcare genuinely better.

We are solving one of the biggest challenges of our generation, and to do this, we need the best talent possible to help us raise the bar. Our products are used daily by over 98% of GP practices and half of NHS hospitals, sending an average of over 25 million messages every month, impacting millions of lives.

Your role will be mission-critical and you will be central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS. You will directly enable faster, safer, and more accessible patient care, while helping teams solve customer problems and leading the team that owns a specific set of capabilities within the Accurx product.

To give a flavour of what you might be working on, right now we are focused on:

  • Implementing our AI Scribe across GP practices, hospitals, and other care settings, and ensuring every patient leaves an appointment with a clearly documented summary.
  • Translating our expertise from implementing total triage in GP practices to improve how hospital specialist services deliver care.
  • Powering communication for Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, a new type of service bringing together staff from different organisations that is pivotal to the government’s 10-year plan.

The unique challenges you’ll solve include:

  • Balancing product delivery with technical health by representing the team’s decisions, trade-offs, and priorities to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Driving continuous improvement by using data to monitor delivery flow and proactively addressing obstacles to ensure commitments are met.
  • Fostering a high-performance culture by providing feedback, growth opportunities, and support to your engineers.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive the delivery for our clinician-facing inbox, to help clinicians prioritise, manage, and resolve patient requests.
  • Drive the evolution of our conversations and inbox technical systems.
  • Manage the process and the mechanisms used by the team to deliver on their commitments.
  • Be accountable for delivery: Ensure goals are achievable, with appropriate assessment and decomposition of work, sequencing, and capacity planning (in collaboration with the expertise in your team).
  • Ensure the team manage the health of their systems confidently and responsibly.
  • Guide technical direction: Work with the engineers on your team to make appropriate architectural and system design decisions within your team’s product area. Champion best practices around code quality, monitoring, alerting, and service health.
  • Lead and grow your team: Manage and mentor your engineers, supporting recruitment, development, performance reviews, promotions, and conflict resolution. Build a culture that is collaborative, high-performing, and focused on delivering impact.
  • Enable cross-team success: Collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and stakeholders to unblock dependencies and ensure alignment across the business.

We need an Engineering Manager who embodies our Principles and thrives on significant challenges. We’re seeking the core skills below, coupled with a mindset ready for real impact:

  • Strong technical background with experience in C# or Java, or a similar role within the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience in user-centric, multidisciplinary teams, working closely with product, UX, and commercial functions.
  • A strong business mindset to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Delivery-focused with experience in agile teams, able to create clear delivery plans that ensure visibility on results and impact.
  • An understanding of best practices around monitoring, alerting, and maintaining service health.
  • The ability to contribute to technical decisions and participate in discussions on system and service design.
  • Strong management experience overseeing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, conflict resolution, performance management, and promotions.

What success looks like in this role:

  • Your product team consistently delivers high-quality features.
  • Engineers feel supported, motivated, and clear on their priorities, and are performing well as individuals and a team.
  • Technical decisions contribute to a reliable, scalable, and secure platform used by millions of NHS staff, especially important as we scale.
  • Delivery plans are transparent, measurable, and aligned to organisational goals.

Our Principles in Action:

  • Fix healthcare communication: Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication - all of our efforts are centred here.
  • Raise the bar: We have built an exceptional team to solve hard challenges. We hire for expertise and new ideas, maintaining high standards, giving honest feedback, and only delivering work we’re proud of.
  • Be a driver, not a passenger: We make things happen, focus on the right problems, and bring the energy to deliver ambitious goals.
  • Succeed together: We succeed only as a team. Our mission is too important for anything less, so company success always comes first.
  • Move with urgency: We’re on a mission, and every day lost is a missed opportunity to improve lives. We work at pace and focus on our mission, our users, and our impact.
  • Be relentlessly resourceful: We embrace constraints as they force us to think differently, be creative, and focus.
  • Embrace challenge: We value constructive conflict over harmony, having tough conversations for the best outcome.

What we can offer:

  • £75,000 - £105,000 salary + the value of £50,750 in share options.
  • Access to Happl - a flexible benefits provider with a given budget of £600 to spend on perks of your choice. Options include private health insurance, wellness providers and more.
  • Flexible Working: We are an office first culture and ask you are in at least 3 days a week.
  • Enhanced parental leave policy.
  • Free healthy breakfasts, snacks and lunches will be provided, with the occasional sweet treat!
  • And much more.
