Healthcare systems are struggling; our solution is communication. We have a bold vision: everyone involved in a patient’s care - including the patient - should be able to communicate with each other, and we believe every NHS staff member should be using our software to make that happen. We want to make healthcare genuinely better. Our products are used daily by over 98% of GP practices and half of NHS hospitals, sending an average of over 25 million messages every month, impacting millions of lives.
Your role is mission-critical and you will be central to shaping the core communication infrastructure of the NHS. You’ll enable faster, safer, and more accessible patient care, while helping teams solve customer problems and leading the team that owns a specific set of capabilities within the Accurx product.
To give a flavour of what Accurx is working on right now, we are focused on:
- Implementing our AI Scribe across GP practices, hospitals, and other care settings, ensuring every patient leaves an appointment with a clearly documented summary.
- Translating our expertise from implementing total triage in GP practices to improve how hospital specialist services deliver care.
- Powering communication for Integrated Neighbourhood Teams, a new type of service bringing together staff from different organisations that is pivotal to the government’s 10-year plan.
What You’ll Do
- Drive delivery of our AI and Ambient Scribe capability, to save healthcare professionals time and allow them to focus more on the patient and less on admin, and to streamline onward communication.
- Translate product priorities into actionable delivery plans for your team.
- Ensure features are delivered on time, with visibility into progress, quality, and measurable impact.
- Manage the process and mechanisms used by the team to deliver on their commitments.
- Lead in ensuring goals are achievable, with appropriate assessment and decomposition of work, sequencing, and capacity planning (in collaboration with your team’s expertise).
- Ensure the team manages the health of their systems confidently and responsibly.
- Guide technical direction: work with engineers on your team to make architectural and system design decisions within your product area.
- Champion best practices around code quality, monitoring, alerting, and service health.
- Lead and grow your team: manage and mentor engineers, supporting recruitment, development, performance reviews, promotions, and conflict resolution.
- Build a collaborative, high-performing culture focused on impact.
- Enable cross-team success: collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and stakeholders to unblock dependencies and ensure alignment across the business.
The unique challenges we want you to solve
- Balancing product delivery with technical health by representing the team’s decisions, trade-offs, and priorities to non-technical stakeholders.
- Driving continuous improvement by using data to monitor delivery flow and proactively addressing obstacles to ensure commitments are met.
- Fostering a high-performance culture by providing feedback, growth opportunities, and support to your engineers.
Success in this role
- Your product team consistently delivers high-quality features.
- Engineers feel supported, motivated, and clear on their priorities.
- Technical decisions contribute to a reliable, scalable, and secure platform used by millions of NHS staff.
- Delivery plans are transparent, measurable, and aligned to organisational goals.
What we’re looking for
- Strong technical background with experience in C# or Java, or a similar role within the software delivery lifecycle.
- Experience in user-centric, multidisciplinary teams, working closely with product, UX, and commercial functions.
- A strong business mindset to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Delivery-focused with experience in agile teams, able to create clear delivery plans that ensure visibility on results and impact.
- Understanding of monitoring, alerting, and maintaining service health.
- Ability to contribute to technical decisions and participate in discussions on system and service design.
- Strong management experience overseeing the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, conflict resolution, performance management, and promotions.
Our Principles in action
- Fix healthcare communication: All efforts are centred here.
- Raise the bar: Hire for expertise, provide honest feedback, and deliver work we’re proud of.
- Be a driver, not a passenger: Focus on the right problems and deliver ambitious goals.
- Succeed together: Company success comes first.
- Move with urgency: We work at pace to improve lives.
- Be relentlessly resourceful: Embrace constraints to think differently and be creative.
- Embrace challenge: Constructive conflict for the best outcome.
