This is a hands-on, senior assistant manager position within a modern, high-performing poultry operation. You'll be the right hand to the Farm Manager, with real responsibility for bird welfare, production performance, people management, and compliance. This is not a stepping-stone admin role. You'll be on the ground, in the sheds, managing stock, leading teams, and ensuring the unit performs commercially, ethically, and compliantly.
Key Responsibilities
- Day-to-day management of poultry units, ensuring exceptional bird welfare at all times
- Deputising for the Farm Manager and supporting site leadership and decision-making
- Monitoring flock performance: FCR, mortality, growth rates, uniformity, and health
- Implementing and maintaining biosecurity, welfare, and assurance standards (Red Tractor, RSPCA, retailer codes)
- Managing and motivating farm teams, including rotas, training, and performance
- Liaising with vets, nutritionists, hatcheries, and live operations teams
- Ensuring full compliance with H&S, animal welfare legislation, and company SOPs
- Accurate record keeping and reporting on flock data and KPIs
About You
- Proven experience as an Assistant Farm Manager, Senior Stockperson, or Unit Manager within poultry (broilers, layers, or breeders)
- Strong understanding of commercial poultry production and welfare-led farming
- Confident leading people and taking responsibility in the Farm Manager's absence
- Practical, resilient, and comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced farm environment
- Competent with farm management systems, data recording, and performance metrics
- Full UK driving licence
