Are you an experienced, senior account director with a decade of agency-side client services and account management experience? We are looking for a Client Account Director with a strong performance marketing agency background to manage key client accounts.
As Client Account Director, you’ll take ownership of a portfolio of client accounts, acting as the senior day-to-day relationship lead and the person accountable for ensuring we consistently deliver great work and measurable results. This role is a blend of account leadership and delivery oversight: the main purpose of this role is to help clients grow, through strong client understanding and opportunity identification. You’ll shape account strategy with client stakeholders, manage expectations, spot risks early, and coordinate internal delivery teams to exceed expectations and grow the agency by growing our clients’ businesses. We aim to surprise and delight our clients regularly!
You will not be expected to “do the channel work” day-to-day, but you will be expected to understand performance marketing deeply, challenge the work constructively, and lead the client relationship with confidence. You will be expected to get involved in new business pitches.
Job Responsibilities
- Client Relationship & Account Ownership
- Own a portfolio of client relationships, acting as the primary senior point of contact.
- Build trust with key stakeholders (often Marketing Directors / Heads of Growth / CMOs) through proactive communication and clear leadership.
- Lead regular client meetings (status, performance reviews, quarterly planning) with strong agenda-setting and follow-through.
- Translate client business goals into clear marketing priorities, outcomes, and measurement frameworks.
- Manage client satisfaction, retention, renewals, and growth opportunities (cross-sell / upsell where appropriate).
- Delivery Oversight & Light Project Management
- Ensure internal delivery teams (Paid Media, PPC, social media, programmatic, SEO/GEO, Analytics, and partner agencies) are aligned on priorities and delivering on time and on brief.
- Provide “light-touch” project management: timelines, dependencies, actions, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Monitor delivery quality and performance: flag issues early, resolve blockers, and ensure accountability.
- Maintain clarity on scope, outputs, and responsibilities across teams and stakeholders.
- Keep documentation and reporting clear, consistent, and client-ready.
- Commercial & Operational Management
- Own the commercial health of your accounts: secure new projects and lines of retainer work, scope control, margin awareness, and resourcing needs.
- Support proposal development and renewals in collaboration with leadership.
- Identify and manage scope creep and change requests, ensuring the right process and commercial outcomes.
- Contribute to improving internal ways of working, processes, and templates to increase delivery consistency.
What Success Looks Like (First 3–6 Months)
- Clients feel confident, informed, and well-supported, communication is proactive and structured.
- Delivery teams are clear on priorities, timelines, and expectations for each account.
- Account performance and reporting are easy to understand and tied to business outcomes.
- Risks and delivery issues are spotted early and resolved calmly and commercially.
- You’re contributing to account stability and growth (renewals, expansions, and stronger stakeholder relationships).
Qualifications
- 10+ Year account management experience within a digital marketing, performance marketing or paid media agency.
- Experience managing multiple client accounts simultaneously, with varied stakeholders and priorities.
- Strong understanding of performance marketing fundamentals (paid search, social, programmatic, measurement, attribution basics).
- Ability to lead clients confidently, including senior stakeholders, challenging when needed and guiding decisions with evidence.
- Excellent communication: clear writing, strong meeting facilitation, and dependable follow-through.
- Organised, commercially aware, calm under pressure.
- Ownership mindset: you don’t wait to be asked - problems get solved and clients stay informed.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)
- Experience working with international / multi-market campaigns.
- Familiarity with Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, GA4, GTM and reporting stacks.
- Experience in regulated/complex sectors (e.g., finance, insurance, B2B).
- Comfort contributing to proposals, SOWs, and account growth planning.
