Overview We're on a mission to issue 1 billion career changing credentials.

Accredible is the world's leading digital credential platform, helping universities, associations, and training providers issue badges, certificates, and transcripts that open doors for learners worldwide.

Organizations including Google, IAPP, Mc Graw Hill, Rutgers, Skillsoft, and the University of Cambridge trust Accredible to help their learners prove what they know.

We're building the data layer that turns a credential into a career move-connecting people with job opportunities, labor market insights, and learning pathways that help them take the next step.

Our mission: to be the first company to issue one billion verifiable, career advancing credentials.

We are a fully remote team spread across the US, UK, Egypt, India, Portugal, and beyond.

We debate like equals, hold each other to high standards, and genuinely care about our customers and each other.

We're looking for a Vice President of Engineering to lead our Engineering organization day to day.

Reporting directly to our CTO, you'll own the people, processes, and delivery that keep our engineering organization running at its best, enabling the CTO to focus on long term technical strategy.

Who You Are You're an experienced engineering leader who knows how to build high performing distributed teams.

You understand that great engineering organizations are built through trust, clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

You're equally comfortable discussing architecture with senior engineers, coaching engineering managers, reviewing delivery metrics, or partnering with Product and Executive Leadership on strategic priorities.

Most importantly, you're a compassionate leader who listens first, communicates clearly, embraces feedback, and creates an environment where engineers can do the best work of their careers.

  • What You'll Be Doing
  • Building and leading a high performing, generative engineering culture.
  • Hiring exceptional engineers and engineering leaders while coaching existing team members to grow.
  • Managing engineering performance and making difficult people decisions when necessary.
  • Owning engineering delivery, ensuring the team reliably ships what it commits to.
  • Driving sprint execution, engineering velocity, predictability, and continuous improvement.
  • Designing and refining engineering processes including sprint planning, code review, CI/CD, and Jira workflows.
  • Partnering with Product and company leadership to make effective roadmap and technical prioritisation decisions.
  • Championing engineering quality, technical excellence, and platform reliability.
  • Working alongside the CTO to evolve Accredible's long term technical architecture and engineering strategy.
  • Monitoring and communicating engineering health, including delivery metrics, uptime, defects, and operational performance.
  • Supporting customer conversations involving technical architecture when needed.

How We Work At Accredible, Engineering exists to build products that customers love while continuously improving how we work.

You'll lead a fully distributed engineering organisation spanning multiple countries and time zones, creating an environment where autonomy, ownership, and accountability thrive.

You'll be responsible for ensuring engineering processes remove friction rather than create it, helping teams deliver quickly without sacrificing quality.

You'll work closely with our CTO, CEO, Product leadership, and Executive Team to ensure engineering execution supports company priorities while maintaining a healthy balance between delivery, technical investment, and long term platform stability.

This role is focused on engineering leadership-you won't own product strategy, security & compliance, or internal IT, as those areas have dedicated ownership.

This role is remote and UK based (or close to GMT) to align with the engineering organization, with occasional travel required to meet the Senior Leadership Team, typically less than twice per year.

What We're Looking For Leadership & Engineering Experience

  • Significant experience leading distributed engineering teams across multiple time zones.
  • Proven ability to build high performing engineering cultures through coaching, feedback, and accountability.
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering leaders and individual contributors.
  • Strong engineering management experience with Agile software development practices.
  • Delivery & Operational Excellence
  • Demonstrated success improving engineering delivery, predictability, and team performance.
  • Experience building engineering processes that increase speed without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Strong understanding of sprint planning, code review, CI/CD, engineering metrics, and software delivery lifecycle.
  • Experience balancing feature delivery with technical debt, reliability, and platform health.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Broad technical experience with the ability to make sound engineering decisions alongside technical experts.
  • Comfortable discussing software architecture and engineering strategy.
  • Experience documenting technical decisions and ensuring alignment across engineering teams.
  • Understanding of modern software development practices, including AI and LLM assisted development.
  • Cross Functional Leadership
  • Strong partnership with Product to balance business priorities with engineering realities.
  • Comfortable communicating technical concepts to executives, customers, and non technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise what matters most.
  • Cultural Competencies
  • Results Oriented: Focus on meaningful outcomes and measurable progress.
  • Proactive: Remove blockers and drive work forward with intention.
  • Dependable: Follow through on commitments and create accountability.
  • Prioritizer: Focus teams on the highest impact work.
  • Bias to Action: Move quickly while making thoughtful decisions.
  • Humble in Feedback: Welcome challenge, encourage debate, and let data guide decisions.
  • Supportive: Build an environment where people succeed together.
  • Ambitious: Set high standards and continually raise the bar.
  • Builder: Constantly improve teams, processes, and systems.
  • Great Communicator: Create clarity through transparent, concise communication.
  • What Success Looks Like Engineering Delivery
  • Multiple deployments ship everyday.
  • Cycle times continue to decrease while maintaining quality.
  • Production incidents are resolved quickly and effectively.
  • More than 80% of committed story points (or sprint goals) are consistently delivered.
  • Platform Reliability
  • Uptime remains at 99.99% across services, APIs, and web applications.
  • API response times remain under 150 ms.
  • Credential load times remain under 5 seconds.
  • Engineering quality continues to improve through effective technical leadership.
  • Modern Engineering Practices
  • The engineering team successfully evolves its SDLC to make effective use of modern AI and LLM assisted development tools.
  • Clear engineering standards exist around how AI generated code is reviewed and maintained.
  • Engineering processes continue to improve without adding unnecessary overhead.
  • People & Leadership
  • Engineers report feeling supported, recognised, and empowered.
  • Engineering leaders have the autonomy and guidance needed to make decisions confidently.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and career development become part of everyday engineering culture.
  • Engineering Visibility
  • Leadership and the Board receive clear, meaningful reporting on engineering health, delivery, quality, and operational performance.
  • Engineering is viewed across the business as a predictable, trusted delivery organization.
  • Why You'll Love It Here
  • Competitive Salary
  • 35 Days Annual Vacation
  • Medical, Vision & Dental Insurance
  • Equity Options
  • Life Insurance & Employee Assistance Programs
  • Remote Work Flexibility
  • Two hours per week (paid) dedicated to learning, plus a budget for courses, books, and conferences
  • A commitment to supporting your personal and professional growth

• Many additional perks!
