Our client, a continually growing and well-established public accounting firm located in Bedford, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team in a highly visible client-facing role reporting directly to the Partners. This opportunity is initially a maternity leave coverage role, with a strong pathway to permanent placement and long-term growth within the firm. It is ideal for a CPA coming from a small to mid-sized public practice environment who enjoys diverse exposure working with owner-managed businesses and non-profits and is looking for long-term career progression.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Prepare and review Compilation engagement files and financial statements under ASPE
- Prepare and review T1 personal, T2 corporate, and other related tax filings
- Meet directly with year-end clients to provide accounting, tax, and business advice
- Supervise and support bookkeeping team members
- Review reconciliations, working papers, and adjusting journal entries
- Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines concurrently
- Liaise with CRA and other regulatory bodies as required
- Identify tax planning opportunities and value-added client solutions
- Support onboarding of new clients and cloud-based accounting processes
- Contribute to workflow improvements and operational efficiencies
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team culture
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- CPA designation required
- Recent public practice experience within a small to mid-sized firm environment
- Proficiency with CaseWare/CaseView, TaxPrep or Cantax, QuickBooks Online, and Excel is an asset
- Technically strong with sound professional judgment and attention to detail
- Client-focused with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proven ability to take ownership and thrive in a fast-paced public practice environment
- Experience mentoring or supervising bookkeeping or junior staff is considered an asset
