Our client is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead their financial strategy, accounting operations, and overall fiscal management. This is a permanent, hands-on executive leadership role based in Bedford, NS, ideal for someone with strong construction-based industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced, project-focused environment. Reporting directly to the Owners, the successful candidate will play a key strategic role in guiding financial decision-making, supporting continued growth, strengthening financial controls, and ensuring compliance across all operations.
Key Responsibilities for the Role:
- Lead full-cycle accounting, financial management, and overall financial strategy for the organization
- Oversee invoicing processes with a strong emphasis on government and institutional contracts
- Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting to meet bonding, lending, and compliance requirements
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and cash flow planning to support business growth
- Partner closely with project managers on job costing, project financial tracking, and cost control
- Supervise and mentor two in-house bookkeepers (bank/credit card reconciliations, invoicing, general bookkeeping)
- Manage relationships with external auditors, accountants, financial institutions, and bonding agents
- Strengthen internal controls, financial governance, and reporting processes across the organization
- Support banking, credit, and financing arrangements as the company continues to expand
- Provide strategic financial insight and recommendations directly to ownership
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior leadership responsibilities
- Strong experience in the construction industry, with deep understanding of project-based accounting
- Direct experience with government contracts, bonding requirements, and compliance reporting
- Strong expertise in job costing, financial planning, and operational financial oversight
- Proficiency with QuickBooks (or similar accounting systems)
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing finance/accounting staff
