Accountancy Recruit is partnering with an SME in Liverpool to recruit an Accountant or Finance Manager.

This role would suit a senior Management Accountant, Financial Accountant or Finance Manager and will oversee the day to day financial management of the business and manging one direct report responsible for AP and AR.

The Finance Manager will have the following responsibilities

Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the company's finance function.

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet reporting.
  • Provide financial analysis and commentary to the Managing Director and senior management team.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify areas of concern or opportunity.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
  • Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and monitor the company's working capital position.
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls and procedures.
  • Maintain the company's Fixed Asset Register.
  • Complete month-end procedures, including prepayments and accruals.
  • Prepare financial information and supporting schedules for the company's external accountants and audits.
  • Oversee and manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, directly overseeing one team member.
  • Manage credit control, ensuring outstanding debts are actively monitored and collected.
  • Complete regular bank reconciliations.
  • Manage petty cash.
  • Complete VAT reconciliations, VAT returns, CIS reconciliations and CIS returns.
  • Ensure all statutory and financial deadlines are met accurately and on time.
  • Manage the company's monthly payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
  • Liaise with relevant external providers and HMRC where required.
  • Monitor and analyse costs, margins and financial performance where required.
  • Provide financial information to assist management in commercial and operational decision-making.

To be successful in this role the Finance Manager will have the following skills/experience:

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant accounting experience, ideally within an SME or similar hands-on environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Excel, Sage 50 Accounts and Payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of VAT, CIS, payroll, bank reconciliations and month-end procedures.
  • Experience preparing management accounts.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently at all levels within the business.

The salary advertised for this role is a guideline and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
