We are partnering with a growing, multi-entity organisation to appoint a commercially driven Finance Director to lead and develop a high-performing finance function. This is a pivotal leadership role, offering broad responsibility across financial strategy, operations, and business partnering.

The Role

As Finance Director, you will lead a finance team and take full ownership of the group finance function. You will play a key role in driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring robust financial controls across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the finance team, overseeing month-end reporting, daily accounting operations, transactional finance, and payroll.
  • Take full ownership of group finance across multiple entities, including monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and consolidated reporting.
  • Develop and manage departmental overhead budgets, working closely with Heads of Department to deliver meaningful financial insights.
  • Provide clear and insightful reporting to senior leadership, supporting analysis of project profitability and operational performance.
  • Oversee weekly cashflow forecasting, payment approvals, and maintain strong banking relationships.
  • Ensure robust transactional finance and credit control processes.
  • Manage WIP calculations, reporting, and system processes.
  • Oversee payroll, ensuring compliance with PAYE, reconciliations, and statutory requirements including P11Ds.
  • Maintain oversight of all tax compliance, including Corporation Tax, VAT, CIS, and PAYE.
  • Act as the primary contact for auditors, managing year-end processes, statutory accounts, and audit preparation.
  • Coordinate with external bodies and manage annual insurance renewals.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee financial systems and integrations, including Business Central and 4PS.
  • Drive improvements in ERP functionality, internal controls, and finance processes.

Candidate Profile

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience.
  • Background in construction, industrial, or project-based environments is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in multi-entity reporting, cashflow management, and statutory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of UK VAT and CIS requirements.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to partner effectively with operational teams.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong ERP system capability.
