Dealership Accountant
We are working with an established automotive dealership who are looking for a Dealership Accountant to join their finance team.
This is a hands-on role supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the dealership, working closely with department managers, the wider accounts team and Financial Controller.
The role would suit an experienced Assistant Accountant, Accounts Senior or Dealership Accountant looking to take the next step, particularly someone with an interest in the automotive sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete daily VRN (Vehicle Release Number) checks, ensuring vehicle finance is accurate and cleared prior to vehicle release
- Support department managers and staff with accounting queries and financial information
- Provide support and guidance to the Cashier and Accounts Assistant
- Complete month-end journals and reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations
- Calculate and post vehicle and fixed asset depreciation
- Prepare accruals and prepayments
- Complete vehicle profit reconciliations and present findings for review with the management team
- Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Complete manufacturer reconciliations
- Prepare and submit composite returns to manufacturers
- Assist the Financial Controller with day-to-day finance and accounting requirements
- Support the external audit process, responding to information and documentation requests as required
- Identify discrepancies and investigate financial queries to ensure accurate reporting
About You
We're looking for someone who is commercial, hands-on and confident working across a busy finance function.
You may already be working as a Dealership Accountant, or could be an experienced Assistant Accountant or Accounts Senior looking to move into the automotive sector.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within an accounts or finance role
- Good understanding of month-end processes and reconciliations
- Experience with balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good Excel skills
- Confident communicating with both finance and non-finance colleagues
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Automotive or dealership experience would be advantageous but is not essential
- AAT, ACCA/CIMA study or equivalent experience would be beneficial
