Head of Finance – Remote - will only be required in Hertfordshire office for meetings. 1 year fixed term contract.

Are you a commercially minded finance leader who enjoys being hands-on and making a genuine impact? This role will be fully remote only going into the office for meetings. This is a 1 year fixed term contract with scope to become permanent.

We’re working with an exciting and growing organisation that is looking to appoint a Head of Finance reporting to the CFO to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in the company’s continued growth. This is a broad and highly visible position, ideal for someone who combines strong technical finance expertise with commercial acumen, and who is comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.

As Head of Finance, you will take responsibility for the full finance function, providing robust financial insight and supporting the senior leadership team with key business decisions. A key element of the role will be supporting the organisation through M&A activity, including financial due diligence, integration, modelling and post-acquisition reporting. You will also lead on FP&A, budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, while ensuring the business maintains strong financial controls and compliance.

Importantly, this is a hands-on leadership role. You will be expected to get into the detail when required, improve processes, challenge existing ways of working and build a finance function that can support the organisation's next phase of growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the finance function across all areas of financial management
  • Take a lead role in M&A activity, including due diligence, financial modelling, analysis and integration
  • Own the FP&A function, including budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
  • Produce accurate and insightful management accounts and board-level reporting
  • Provide commercial analysis and financial insight to support strategic decision-making
  • Oversee cash flow, working capital and financial performance
  • Ensure robust financial controls, governance and regulatory compliance
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting
  • Work closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and key stakeholders
  • Manage and develop the finance team while remaining hands-on with the numbers
  • Support business growth initiatives and provide financial challenge where appropriate

About You

We’re looking for a commercially focused finance professional who has a proven track record in a Head of Finance, Financial Controller, Finance Director or similar senior finance position. You will ideally have:

  • Proven M&A experience, ideally across acquisitions, due diligence and integration
  • Strong FP&A and financial modelling experience
  • Excellent understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance
  • Strong commercial and analytical capabilities
  • Experience working closely with senior leadership and influencing business decisions
  • A genuinely hands-on approach — someone who is happy getting into the detail rather than simply managing from a distance
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
  • The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ideally ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified (or equivalent)

Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an ambitious organisation at an exciting stage of its growth. You’ll have real ownership of the finance function, significant exposure to the senior leadership team and the opportunity to play a pivotal role in M&A and future growth strategy. If you're a hands-on finance leader who can combine strategic thinking with strong technical delivery and can start by November we'd love to hear from you.
