An established and growing organisation is seeking an experienced Financial Controls & Systems Lead to strengthen and modernise its finance control environment. This is a high-profile role for a qualified accountant who has a track record of implementing finance systems, designing robust workflows, and embedding strong financial control and compliance frameworks across complex organisations. This role offers real influence, working closely with senior finance leaders and stakeholders to ensure financial integrity, effective governance and continuous improvement.
The Role
Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will act as the central owner of financial control and risk across the organisation. You will ensure that financial processes, systems and workflows are well designed, consistently applied and compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Leading the design, implementation and ongoing improvement of finance control frameworks, policies and procedures
- Ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial reporting and accounting controls
- Overseeing statutory, regulatory and tax compliance, including fraud prevention and risk management
- Owning the finance risk register and driving mitigation actions
- Supporting the implementation and optimisation of finance systems and payment platforms, ensuring controls are embedded at system and workflow level
- Designing and embedding effective treasury and payment controls, including banking access and mandates
- Partnering with finance operations teams to improve transactional workflows, efficiency and consistency
- Supporting contract implementation and organisational change from a finance controls perspective
- Acting as a key contact for internal and external audit, ensuring issues are resolved effectively
- Providing guidance, training and challenge to senior stakeholders across the business
About You
You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with strong experience in financial control, governance or financial reporting within a complex or multi-entity environment. You will bring:
- Proven experience implementing or improving finance systems, workflows and control environments
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of statutory and regulatory compliance
- Experience embedding controls across finance operations and transactional processes
- The confidence to influence and challenge senior stakeholders constructively
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate complex financial information clearly
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and control excellence
