Job Description

The Sales Manager is responsible for driving proactive sales activity, developing strategic client relationships, and generating revenue opportunities for the hotel.

This role is a key member of the Commercial team and is expected to contribute commercial insight, represent the hotel confidently in the market, and support the achievement of business objectives.

The successful candidate will combine strong sales expertise with a proactive, solution-focused approach, using their network, market knowledge and commercial understanding to identify opportunities and grow business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactive Sales & Business Development
  • Develop and execute a proactive sales plan to identify and convert new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients and accounts.
  • Conduct regular client meetings, sales calls and networking activities to generate revenue.
  • Identify opportunities across corporate, MICE, leisure, distribution and other relevant market segments.
  • Use market knowledge and existing relationships to drive new opportunities for the hotel.
  • Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to increase market share.
  • Client Relationship Management
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with key clients, partners and stakeholders.
  • Act as a confident and professional ambassador for the hotel during client meetings, presentations and industry events.
  • Understand client needs and translate them into commercial opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with key accounts to maximise retention and growth.
  • Commercial Contribution
  • Work closely with the Commercial Director and wider Commercial team to support revenue growth.
  • Provide market insight, sales feedback and recommendations to improve performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve visibility, positioning and distribution channels.
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives that strengthen the hotel’s commercial performance.
  • Sales Process & Performance Management
  • Manage the full sales cycle from prospecting and qualification through to conversion and account development.
  • Respond effectively to RFPs, RFIs and client enquiries with a commercial approach.
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activity, opportunities and account development.
  • Use CRM tools effectively to manage pipeline and client engagement.
  • Deliver agreed sales targets and activity objectives.
  • Internal Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead, inspire and develop the Sales team, creating a high-performing, collaborative and commercially focused culture
  • Take responsibility for the performance, engagement and professional development of the Sales team through coaching, mentoring and performance management.
  • Build credibility and trust through ownership, accountability and commercial judgement.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience in a proactive hotel sales role, with a strong track record of generating new business through business development, prospecting and networking.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business and build client relationships.
  • Existing network and understanding of relevant market segments.
  • Strong track record of proactive sales activity and revenue generation.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to identify opportunities and turn ideas into action.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and take ownership of results.
