Location: On-site in Knutsford, Cheshire, North-West England (not remote). Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere is one of the North West’s most distinguished luxury destinations. Your purpose will be: To support the presentation, conditioning, and maintenance of the championship golf course at Fairmont Cheshire The Mere. The Assistant Greenkeeper plays a vital role in delivering immaculate playing surfaces, exceptional course aesthetics, and a consistently world-class golfing experience.
Job Description
- Maintain turf health through mowing, aerating, fertilising, and pest control
- Set up and maintain course elements including bunkers, hazards, and tee markers
- Operate and maintain greenkeeping equipment safely and efficiently
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations across all work areas
- Communicate effectively with team members, management, and golf course users
- Apply golf rules and etiquette in course maintenance activities
- Support renovation projects and ornamental area maintenance as required
- Monitor and report on course conditions and operational issues
- Attend training sessions and meetings to enhance skills and knowledge
- Uphold The Mere's values and maintain high standards of professionalism
Please note that we believe in flexibility and multi-skilling, and you may be asked to do different tasks from time to time to enable us to meet the needs of our guests and colleagues.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Maintenance (or working towards) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in greenkeeping, sports turf, or grounds maintenance
- Experience operating turf machinery including mowers, tractors, and implements
- Knowledge of turf care, including mowing, aeration, irrigation, and nutrition
- Understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations, including safe machinery use and COSHH
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude
- A passion for golf course presentation and delivering exceptional playing conditions
