Strategic Finance
Accordion’s Strategic FP&A Practice works with leading private equity firms globally to help the finance teams of portfolio companies build capabilities that enhance performance visibility, planning activities, data & analytics, and business partnering. By combining extensive FP&A experience, data and technology skills, and a proprietary engagement model, we develop and implement tools, processes, and solutions to accelerate value creation.
This role can be based in our London office. Candidates should be local to the desired location and be willing to work remotely 1–2 days a week.
What You’ll Do
As an Associate on a lean, cross‑functional team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues from private equity, investment banking, FP&A, Big 4, and financial controllers to identify and rectify issues across a broad range of scenarios. The role requires regular and extensive travel across Europe to work with clients in the relevant jurisdictions.
Financial Services Company Post‑Bankruptcy
- Determine data availability and reliability, and design a structured process to aggregate relevant data sets that will serve as the foundation of all future reporting.
- Work with the CFO, sponsor, and operating team to understand business drivers, verify KPIs, and establish a single source of truth via monthly reporting packages.
- Develop a reporting cadence and automated processes that combine sound data flows and insightful KPIs to generate monthly board and management reporting packages.
- Train the existing FP&A team to run and own process flows and forecast analysis tools.
Education Scenario
- Complete a diagnostic deep dive to identify anecdotes, root causes, and key corrective themes in existing budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Lead a comprehensive budget plan and process in partnership with FP&A, sales, operations, and senior leadership teams.
- Build and maintain 13‑week cash‑flow forecasts by coordinating with relevant departments.
- Leverage PowerQuery and PowerPivot for structuring, analysing, and modelling data within Excel, delivering user‑friendly reports for the CFO, FP&A team, and other stakeholders.
Acquisition of Three Stand‑alone Businesses
- Design a singular finance function that can serve all three businesses, including headcount, budget, and specific roles and responsibilities for each team member.
- Assist in developing detailed, week‑by‑week training plans for each team member.
- Select and implement a robust ERP solution that meets the needs of the newly combined business.
- Build analytical tools and create template reporting.
You Have
- A bachelor's degree in business, finance or economics. A Master’s degree (MBA, MA in Finance, etc.) is beneficial.
- Minimum 3 years of experience at a top‑tier private equity firm, investment bank and/or consulting firm.
- Strong quantitative skills, highly organised and extremely detail‑oriented.
- Strong ability to leverage Excel to manage, simplify, analyse and present large and complex datasets.
- Strong financial modelling and corporate valuation skills.
- Prior experience preparing reports, presentations and memos, able to communicate thoughts clearly and succinctly.
- Experience working with cross‑functional teams or departments.
- Demonstrated good judgement, initiative and the ability to seek guidance when needed.
- Strong drive and motivation, and adherence to the highest professional standards in client and colleague interactions.
- Additional European‑language skills are a plus.
