Our client is a well-known and reputable HGV dealership with several depots across Scotland. Currently they are looking for an experienced HGV Technician / HGV Fitter / HGV Mechanic for their Perth depot.
Hours of work: Early / late shift pattern with alternate Saturdays
Job Purpose: To inspect, service, maintain, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
- Conduct MOT preparations and inspections
- Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems
- Complete all job cards, service sheets, and compliance documentation accurately
- Ensure all work meets DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and roadside repairs when required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
- Adhere to health & safety regulations at all times
- Liaise with workshop controllers, fleet managers, and parts departments
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of HGV systems (engines, gearboxes, brakes, electrics, air systems)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good time management and attention to detail
- IT literacy for diagnostic tools and job records
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Valid HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence (preferred but not always essential)
- MOT Tester qualification (desirable)
- Understanding of DVSA standards and compliance
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or call-outs if required
Working Conditions:
- Workshop-based with occasional roadside work
- Shift patterns may include days, nights, or rotating shifts
- Use of diagnostic equipment, tools, and lifting equipment
