Our client is a well-known and reputable HGV dealership with several depots across Scotland. Currently they are looking for an experienced HGV Technician / HGV Fitter / HGV Mechanic for their Inverness depot.

Hours of work: Early / late shift pattern with alternate Saturdays

Job Purpose

To inspect, service, maintain, and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
  • Conduct MOT preparations and inspections
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems
  • Complete all job cards, service sheets, and compliance documentation accurately
  • Ensure all work meets DVSA, manufacturer, and company standards
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns and roadside repairs when required
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
  • Adhere to health & safety regulations at all times
  • Liaise with workshop controllers, fleet managers, and parts departments

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as an HGV Technician or similar role
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of HGV systems (engines, gearboxes, brakes, electrics, air systems)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good time management and attention to detail
  • IT literacy for diagnostic tools and job records

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Valid HGV Class 1 or Class 2 licence (preferred but not always essential)
  • MOT Tester qualification (desirable)
  • Understanding of DVSA standards and compliance
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, or call-outs if required

  • Shift patterns may include days, nights, or rotating shifts
