About Us

We are a small, nurturing independent specialist school supporting students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many of our students have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and diagnoses including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other neurodiverse profiles.

Our ethos is centred on building trust, boosting confidence, and preparing young people for meaningful futures — whether that be further education, training, or employment.

The Role

We are seeking a Level 6 qualified Careers Advisor to work with our students on a freelance basis. You will provide tailored, person-centred careers guidance that reflects the needs, aspirations, and challenges of each young person.

Success in this role will be measured by the number of pupils with clear, actionable Careers Action Plans and positive progression outcomes post-16.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering 1:1 impartial careers guidance sessions for students in Years 9–11.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection in line with school policies.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, care teams, families, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for each pupil’s career development.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of career pathways and best practises for supporting SEMH and SEND pupils.
  • Supporting students to explore appropriate post-16 options, including further education, apprenticeships, and vocational training.
  • Producing individual Careers Action Plans and contributing to EHCP reviews as required.
  • Advising staff and parents/carers on progression routes and next steps.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the post-16 landscape, especially routes accessible for young people with SEND and SEMH needs.

About You

  • Level 6 qualification in Careers Guidance and Development (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH, or those who face barriers to education.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to build trust and rapport with students who may have low confidence or anxiety about their futures.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

Why Work With Us?

  • A flexible freelance opportunity with autonomy and purpose.
  • A supportive, inclusive school environment with a passionate team.
  • The chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
