The Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick is seeking enthusiastic, proactive and friendly Museum Associates who are available to work a minimum of three days per week, including weekends, during the busy summer season (mid March to early November). The role involves welcoming visitors, providing information on exhibits, promoting sales, and assisting with operations in the gift shop and café.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and process the sale of entrance tickets to the museum.
  • Promote the yearly membership and other incentives.
  • Cash handling, till, PDQ.
  • Assist guests during the introduction to their visit through distribution of quizzes and other informative materials.
  • Retail sales and product demonstrations.
  • Take, prepare and process café orders while maintaining consistency of service and excellent visitor care.
  • Upsell food, beverage and retail products to maximize catering and retail income.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff to facilitate efficient daily operations.
  • Stock reordering and perishable goods replenishment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of café, outside seating, museum and retail gift areas at all times.
  • Restock all display stands, shelves and fridges in the retail shop and catering facility.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed.
  • Comply with appropriate health & safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Passionate about customer service.
  • Experience in customer service or visitor-facing roles in retail sales and/or catering (preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for engaging with the public.
  • Proactive.
  • Interest and knowledge in art, history and the local area would be beneficial.
