Responsibilities include:
- Repairing material handling equipment, including electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components.
- Repairing hydraulic valves and rams.
- Repairing final drive and gearbox components.
- Repairing engines and components.
- Servicing material handling equipment, including gas, diesel and electric powered units.
- Using a check sheet to verify that brakes are fully functional and that lifting equipment and steering are in correct working order.
- Changing the oil and filters as necessary.
- Carrying out thorough examinations pending qualifications.
- Carrying out Preventative Maintenance, such as lubricating steering and lifting equipment.
- Overhauling material handling equipment.
- Carrying out a partial strip-down of gas, diesel, or electric material handling equipment.
- Preparing, steam cleaning or painting the chassis of material handling equipment.
- Bolting or welding ancillaries to the chassis.
- Battery maintenance, including checking voltages and gravities of forklift trucks using meters and hydrometers.
- New and used equipment preparation, including pre-delivery inspections (PDI's) using a manufacturer check-sheet to meet customer specifications, and overseeing despatch and receipt of material handling equipment in and out of the depot.
- Completing engineer paperwork, including weekly timesheet and daily job sheets recording progress, parts used or required.
- Liaising with the Service Controller as necessary and advising of any changes.
- Any other reasonable duties related to this role.
