A major capital upgrade is underway at one of the UK’s largest water treatment facilities, supplying over 600 million litres of potable water per day. The £400m programme forms part of a long-term investment to enhance asset resilience, modernise treatment infrastructure, and deliver improved environmental performance. An experienced Civil Construction Manager is required to join the site delivery team and play a key role in the successful execution of the works. You will work collaboratively alongside another Construction Manager, with clearly defined responsibilities across pre-construction and live construction phases to ensure effective ownership, coordination, and continuity from planning through to delivery.

Job Description

Mission:

  • Take full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and delivery of civil construction activities within your allocated scope, ensuring works are executed safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Lead site-based construction operations in a live environment, managing day-to-day activities, sequencing of works, and interfaces with adjacent disciplines and operational assets.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple subcontractors and direct labour, ensuring adherence to approved construction methodologies, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Provide strong health, safety, and environmental leadership, promoting a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with company, client, and statutory requirements.
  • Act as a key interface between construction, engineering, planning, and commercial teams, contributing to lookahead planning, progress reviews, and resolution of technical and programme challenges.
  • Monitor construction progress against programme milestones, identifying risks and implementing mitigation measures to maintain delivery targets.
  • Ensure quality assurance and quality control processes are implemented effectively, including inspections, testing, and compliance with specifications and industry standards.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and resolve construction issues as they arise, maintaining alignment with wider project objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Support cost control activities, including productivity monitoring, subcontractor performance management, and input into forecasting and change management.
  • Maintain clear communication with senior project management and the client, contributing to coordination meetings and reporting on progress, risks, and performance.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with significant experience delivering large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in a site-based construction management role, delivering complex works in live construction environments.
  • Strong technical background in civil works, including reinforced concrete structures, earthworks, excavation, and major infrastructure interfaces.
  • Experience within the water, utilities, energy, or heavy infrastructure sectors is highly advantageous, particularly on treatment plants or water-related assets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple workstreams, subcontractors, and stakeholders concurrently.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive progress and maintain focus on safety, quality, programme, and cost.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with the capability to operate effectively within a large, multidiscipline project team.
