ACCIONA is looking to appoint a Site Environmental Assistant based in our North London Heat and Power Project in Edmonton, London E4 8JG. This is a part-time position (3 days per week).

Main responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Environmental Manager, we are looking for an enthusiastic site-based Environmental Assistant, or an individual with relevant transferable experience who is passionate about the environment.
  • A significant duty of the role is to be the “boots on the ground”; monitoring contractors at the work fronts on site to ensure adherence to environmental requirements.
  • A standard day will include visiting sub-contractors and checking their continued environmental compliance with ACCIONA’s standards.
  • Attendance at daily briefings to discuss environmental issues.
  • Collecting environmental data from sub-contractors and/or from on-site measuring devices.
  • Collecting water samples, as directed, to monitor the construction site’s compliance with its consents, or as part of incident investigations.
  • Review of environmental documentation e.g. Construction Environmental Management Plan; Risk Assessments and Method Statements; training material; and the collation of sub-contractor data such as waste tonnage, plant register, and resource consumption.
  • Support the co-ordination of the activities of consultants retained by ACCIONA to address environmental matters on a variety of specialisms.
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the ISO14001 certified EMS as directed by the Environmental Manager.
  • Support the investigation of environmental incidents and complaints to identify trends, root causes, corrective and preventative actions needed.
  • Undertake routine site inspections and audits, and record findings, working with ACCIONA personnel and sub-contractors to ensure that they are managed to completion.
  • Providing information on the environmental elements of weekly and monthly progress reports to the Environmental Manager or Deputy Environmental Manager as directed to enable timely reporting.

    • Knowledge of Waste Duty of Care requirements and use of the SmartWaste platform
    • CITB Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS)
    • IEMA membership
    • Environmental degree or degree in another relevant subject
