Overview
Access Talent Group are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and growing Water Consultancy team delivering innovative solutions across the UK. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment working on exciting AMP8 and AMP9 programmes, helping water companies tackle critical challenges in wastewater, pollution, flooding, and resilience. This is your chance to contribute to projects that make a tangible difference to millions of people across the UK.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment, including pumping and aeration systems.
- Produce key deliverables such as P&IDs, specifications, technical reports, datasheets, and schedules.
- Carry out asset condition surveys, prepare recommendations, and support site inspections and testing.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
- Provide technical governance and mentoring to junior colleagues, reviewing their work and supporting their development.
- Act as project manager, package manager, or design lead on specific projects.
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and support risk assessments for design safety.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (IMechE-accredited preferred).
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
- Significant experience in the UK water industry.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to water and wastewater treatment.
- Proficiency in pump selection, pumping system design, and P&ID development.
- Experience producing technical specifications, reports, and procurement documentation.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar design tools (advantageous).
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and procurement processes.
- Ability to travel to operational and construction sites when required.
