Access Talent Group are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineering SME to lead the delivery of Infrastructure or non‑infrastructure water sector projects across the UK. An established civil engineering specialist is seeking a highly capable and motivated Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to take a leading role in the delivery of water sector projects across the UK. This is a senior technical leadership position, responsible for setting standards, assuring quality, and supporting the development of engineering teams. You will act as a trusted technical authority and project lead, working collaboratively with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful outcomes from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the civil engineering design and delivery of water and wastewater projects from concept to detailed design
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction drawings in line with industry best practice
  • Undertake engineering calculations and analysis using appropriate design tools and software
  • Coordinate civil designs with mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines to deliver integrated solutions
  • Carry out site visits for surveys, inspections, and technical support during construction
  • Review, approve, and mentor the work of other engineers to ensure high‑quality outputs
  • Develop practical, compliant, and cost‑effective engineering solutions
  • Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and workshops with clients and project stakeholders
  • Provide technical input into bids, proposals, and strategic development initiatives
  • Promote strong health, safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement culture
  • Maintain knowledge of current standards, regulations, and emerging best practice within the UK water industry

About You

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional body (e.g. ICE, IStructE, CIWEM)
  • Typically 8+ years’ experience in the UK water sector
  • Proven experience leading and delivering non‑infrastructure water projects
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop others
  • High level of technical expertise in civil design and construction methodologies
  • Excellent knowledge of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and water industry regulations
  • Proficient in relevant design and analysis software (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Tekla, TEDDS, STAAD or similar)
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required
