Elgin Full-Time On-site
A

Access Personnel are currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support the delivery of a major Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) installation project in the Peterhead area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive, technically capable Health & Safety professional to play an important role in the safe delivery of a large-scale engineering installation, working closely with site management, engineering teams, specialist subcontractors and project stakeholders.

We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have developed their Health & Safety experience within construction, engineering, industrial installations or similarly demanding operational environments.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of site-based safety management, with particular emphasis on Permit to Work systems, contractor coordination and the management of high-risk activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and promote Health & Safety standards throughout the installation and commissioning phases of a major M&E project.
  • Manage, monitor and support the effective implementation of Permit to Work (PTW) systems across multiple work activities.
  • Review and assess Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented and followed.
  • Monitor high-risk activities including electrical installations, mechanical works, lifting operations, working at height, hot works and isolations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits and compliance assessments, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Work closely with construction managers, engineers, supervisors and subcontractors to ensure safe systems of work are maintained.
  • Support the coordination of simultaneous operations, ensuring potential conflicts between work activities are identified and effectively controlled.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with project safety procedures, relevant legislation and agreed working practices.
  • Assist with incident investigations, near-miss reporting and the implementation of preventative measures.
  • Deliver and participate in toolbox talks, site briefings and safety meetings.
  • Maintain accurate Health & Safety documentation, inspection records and compliance reports.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through visible site engagement, practical advice and constructive communication.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety professional who understands the realities of working within a busy construction or engineering environment.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Previous Health & Safety experience within construction, mechanical and electrical engineering, industrial installations or major infrastructure projects.
  • Strong practical experience of Permit to Work systems, ideally involving multiple contractors and concurrent high-risk activities.
  • A sound understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and relevant construction regulations.
  • Experience reviewing RAMS and monitoring compliance with safe systems of work.
  • Familiarity with electrical and mechanical isolation procedures, including Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO).
  • The confidence to engage effectively with engineers, site supervisors, management teams and subcontractors.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to identifying and resolving site safety concerns.
  • Strong communication, organisational and reporting skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project delivery team.

Qualifications

Candidates should ideally hold:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Relevant experience within a construction or engineering Health & Safety role.
  • CSCS or an appropriate site safety accreditation, where required.

Pay rate of Β£30p/h over the course of the contract.

Additional qualifications or experience involving IOSH, CDM Regulations, electrical safety, temporary works, lifting operations or complex Permit to Work environments would be advantageous.

Why Apply?

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a substantial engineering project, working in a technically challenging environment where effective Health & Safety management is essential to successful delivery.

We welcome applications from both traditional construction Health & Safety professionals and candidates who have transitioned into safety management from a practical engineering background.
