Working closely with the Assistant Head of Curriculum, you will lead a cohort of up to 100 students, taking responsibility for their progress, achievement, wellbeing and overall experience throughout their studies.

Learner management is at the heart of this role.

You will build strong relationships with students, deliver regular one-to-one tutorials, lead course group sessions and maintain effective communication with parents, employers and other stakeholders.

This is not a traditional full-time teaching role.

You will have a reduced specialist teaching timetable and protected time for your Programme Leader responsibilities.

The majority of your teaching will focus on Professional Development, with a smaller amount of specialist teaching in Software Skills and Data Application.

You can expect to deliver approximately 12 face-to-face student tutorials each week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a cohort of up to 100 students, supporting their progress, achievement and wellbeing.
  • Deliver regular one-to-one tutorials and formal progress reviews, setting targets and identifying support needs.
  • Monitor attendance, retention and achievement, proactively supporting students at risk.
  • Plan and deliver engaging Professional Development sessions and specialist teaching in Software Skills and Data Application.
  • Build effective relationships with students, parents, guardians, employers and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate examinations and assessments.
  • Work closely with curriculum and student support teams to promote positive outcomes and inclusive practice.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, curriculum development and wider campus activities.

About You

You will be a committed and organised educator who understands the importance of strong learner relationships and effective student management.

You will be confident supporting a diverse cohort, managing challenging situations and helping learners take responsibility for their own progress.

  • You will demonstrate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, employers and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, mediation and critical-thinking skills.
  • Empathy, compassion and patience, with a genuine commitment to inclusivity and cultural competency.
  • Adaptability, resilience and reflectiveness, with strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Accountability, curiosity and a commitment to self-learning and continuous professional development.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • You will also have relevant Software Development knowledge and technical skills, including:
  • Programming and coding experience, with competence in Python, Java, Type Script and C++.
  • Knowledge of database administration and Data Application.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, alongside a willingness to continue learning and developing your subject knowledge.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant professional qualification and/or experience.
  • A minimum Level 4 teaching qualification, with Level 5 desirable.
  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners within Further Education.
  • A proven ability to support student progress, achievement and positive outcomes.

ACC will support professional development towards a Level 5 teaching qualification for those who demonstrate the ambition and readiness to progress.

What Could a Typical Day Look Like?

Your day will be varied, with the main focus on supporting and developing your student cohort.

You could be delivering one-to-one tutorials, teaching Professional Development sessions, coordinating examinations and assessments, or delivering specialist Software Skills and Data Application teaching.

You will also spend time engaging with parents and stakeholders and working with colleagues to ensure students receive the support they need.
