Our client is one of the major Japanese media-related companies providing financial/economic information on papers and online.
Key responsibilities include:
- Gathering information, scheduling and attending interviews, taking notes, and assisting with supplementary reporting activities.
- Conducting research on a range of current affairs topics and reporting findings back to correspondents in a clear, succinct manner.
- Making short, effective summaries of assigned topics.
- Attending press conferences, taking notes, and reporting findings back to the Editorial Bureau.
- Conducting short interviews both in person and by telephone.
- Scheduling appointments and preparing in advance for interviews.
- Gathering information and comments from a wide range of people on specified topics.
- Working under pressure and meeting time limits in a busy newsroom.
- Adapting to the demands of working with a 24-hour news cycle.
- Providing general administrative support to the newsroom as required.
- Contributing to Nikkei's English publication, Nikkei Asia, with byline, as needed.
Requirements:
- Native level English proficiency and the ability to quickly analyse, process, and summarise information across a variety of genres.
- A demonstrable interest in Economics, Business or Finance.
- A good eye for accuracy and detail.
- Ability to engage with people of all levels confidently.
- Ability to communicate ideas efficiently and clearly.
- Knowledge of Japanese culture and language.
- A deep understanding of diversity and the interpersonal skills to engage effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Experience working within the media or within a research role is desirable.
