Please read the full post details below carefully before applying. All employers are not the same. We invest in and genuinely look after our staff. We carefully hand-select people from a range of backgrounds, and experience is not always necessary.

If you would like to work with a charity who supports people who have a learning disability and / or a mental health issue and think you could make a difference, then please get in touch. We\’d love to hear from you.

We have three sites available to work at – Consett, Esh Winning and Bearpark. This listing is for our CONSETT site. We will only expect you to work at one site in any working day, and you will usually always be based in a single location. You will not be travelling from house to house; We are not a domiciliary care provider.

We offer excellent rates of pay (currently £13.21 per hour from 1st April 2025), and a comprehensive induction training & support package delivered by industry experts. We think we offer better training than anyone else in the area. We pay for all training and for your time attending training. Training lasts around 4 to 6 weeks. This is followed by supernumerary shadow shifts with an experienced staff member before you work directly with service users – No throwing you in at the deep end!

Experience is not necessary, but if you have the right attitudes and values, we will support you through the process and teach you everything you need to know. Well, almost everything! Life experience of caring for others can be helpful.

There is a two stage interview process, beginning with a formal interview then a second stage interview with some service users that you may support. Only on success at stage two would you be offered a position. We feel this is an important part of you getting to know our clients and us getting to know you. Please do not apply if you want a short-term job as this may not be the opportunity for you. We develop our staff and like to have the opportunity for long-term development.

We pay every member of staff, regardless of age, the same rate of pay. So whether you are aged 18 or 85, you will be on the same hourly wage.

We give 30 days of paid annual leave – 2 days more than the required minimum.

We do not believe in zero hour contracts, and guarantee a minimum of 35 hours a week for those that wish to work full-time (people can often work much more if they wish to). Our minimum contract offered is 18 hours. Because of the nature of shift work, we will let you know what shifts you will be working three weeks in advance.

You must also have a current right to work in the UK for at least 12 months. Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor applications for visas or applications for people without an existing right to work.

We are a registered charity and every penny we make goes back into services. We normally invest over 80% (currently 86%) into direct staff costs (wages). We have no shareholders, pay no dividends and have no loans or borrowings. If you want to know more, look at our website at: http://www.acceptcare.org.uk/want-to-work-with-us%3F

PLEASE NOTE: Public transport to and from Consett is limited. If you are a non-driver it would be preferable to live within 10 miles or so of one of our locations, otherwise you will not be able to get to work reliably when you need to. Please do not apply if you live a significant distance from Consett and cannot drive, as it is unlikely that you could rely on public transport to get you to work on weekends, early shifts, in bad weather, or during bank holidays.
