Content Designers (or UX Designers) use data and research to create, update and review content so that it is consistent across client services and in line with client design principles and standards. They design both micro‑ and long‑form content to meet user needs and make complicated language and processes easy to understand. They collaborate with user researchers and other designers to understand user needs and improve the end‑to‑end user journey, building relationships with stakeholders to ensure developed content is factually accurate and meets user needs. They work within multidisciplinary Scrum teams comprised of User Researchers, Interaction Designers, Business Analysts, Developers and other specialists to create User‑Centred Designs for digital products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Create high‑quality content (both micro‑ and long‑form) that is clear, easy to understand and accessible for all audiences across multiple platforms and devices.
  • Lead and align content design activities, ensuring a user‑centred, evidence‑based approach to content design and delivery.
  • Use data and research findings to inform content decisions.
  • Ensure content accuracy by working closely with Subject Matter Experts.
  • Collaborate with other teams and specialisms, such as UX Designers, User Researchers and Developers.
  • Understand user journeys and the role UX writing plays in improving those journeys.
  • Report on and present your work both internally and to client partners.
  • Take an evidence‑led approach to your work, continuously improving content based on user feedback, analytics and industry best practices to enhance usability, engagement and conversion rates.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including accessibility standards, privacy laws and industry regulations.
  • Work independently, to a high standard, as the sole UX Writer within each Scrum/Agile team.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a UX Writer or Content Design role that leverages User‑Centred Design principles.
  • Experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles.
  • Strong advocacy for User‑Centred Design and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with brand tone of voice guidelines, design patterns and style guides.
  • Experience in an Agile or similar multidisciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with Markdown or HTML for content creation.
