Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of major transmission and utility infrastructure projects, including overhead lines, substations, and associated civils works. This role will play a key part in commercial management across the full project lifecycle, with a strong focus on post-contract administration, cost control, and client engagement under NEC forms of contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial management of projects from contract award through to final account
- Administer contracts in line with NEC (NEC3/NEC4) requirements, including:
- Compensation events
- Early warnings
- Change control and valuations
- Manage and report on project costs, forecasts, and cash flow
- Prepare and agree applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
- Provide commercial support to project teams, ensuring robust cost and risk management
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
- Support procurement activities, including subcontractor management and negotiations
- Mentor and support junior QS staff where applicable
Key Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS within utilities, infrastructure, or energy sectors
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (essential)
- Experience in post-contract commercial management
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple workstreams
- Strong stakeholder and client-facing skills
- Experience on transmission, distribution, or major civils projects (desirable)
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
- Working towards or holding RICS / CICES membership (desirable)
