About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and play a critical role in the successful delivery of major projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, analysing project information, and providing commercial insights to support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Working closely with clients, project managers, engineers, and other key stakeholders, you will identify risks and opportunities, evaluate cost implications, and ensure estimates are aligned with project objectives and market conditions.

The role also involves supporting cost reporting, benchmarking activities, and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates based on the level of design information available.
  • Analyse drawings, specifications, and project documents to identify cost drivers and project risks.
  • Develop and maintain accurate pricing models and estimate databases.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and review technical documentation to support estimate preparation.
  • Evaluate estimate assumptions and identify potential commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Source and validate pricing information from suppliers, subcontractors, contractors, and industry databases.
  • Review historical benchmark data and market intelligence to ensure estimates remain competitive and accurate.
  • Collaborate with clients and project delivery teams to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Support the preparation of estimate updates and change reports, providing clear explanations of cost movements.
  • Review contract documentation and assess the impact of scope changes on project budgets.
  • Present cost information and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior estimators within the team.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best-practice estimating processes.
  • Undertake other duties as required to support business and project objectives.

Essential

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years' experience in estimating, cost planning, or pre-contract commercial roles.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering estimates for large-scale infrastructure, energy, commercial, or mission‑critical projects.
  • Strong understanding of cost estimating principles, methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary estimating teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and client‑facing experience.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex technical documentation and convert it into accurate cost information.
  • Preferred
  • Professional membership or accreditation such as MRICS, AACE, ACost E, or equivalent.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Cost X, Candy, Causeway, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of BIM‑enabled estimating and digital cost management solutions.
  • Experience using data‑driven estimating approaches and benchmark databases.
