Software Engineer ( Apache Camel, Spring-Boot, Open API)

Location: Newcastle

Due to the nature of client work you will be undertaking, you will need to be willing to go through a Security Clearance process as part of this role, which requires 5+ years of continuous UK residence as well as no gaps of 6 months or more spent outside the UK within those 5 years. This includes a single consecutive 6-month period or multiple trips that add up to 6+ months

Hybrid Working: This role will require you to work from our Newcastle, Cobalt Business Park office 3 days per week.

  • As a Software Engineer, you will:

  • Participate in agile development projects
  • Support ongoing business requirements
  • Perform system and integration testing with sample and live data
  • Perform root cause analyses and remediation for integration, system reporting and data issues
  • Maintain quality and ensure responsiveness of applications.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the team to design and launch new features.
  • Develop and maintain scalable backend applications using object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Java, C#, or similar) – experience in Java is necessary for this role.
  • Work with modern application frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, .NET Core, Quarkus, or equivalent)
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs and messaging-based solutions using technologies like Apache Camel for routing and mediation, and OpenAPI/Swagger for API specification and documentation
  • Contribute to setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or others
  • Maintain high code quality through automated testing, using frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Work with various types of datastores, including:
  • Relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server)
  • In-memory datastores (e.g., Redis, Memcached)
  • Non-relational (NoSQL) databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra)
  • Develop and deploy applications in containerised environments (e.g., Docker) and manage workloads with Kubernetes or cloud-native alternatives
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, and Product

  • Set yourself apart:

  • Bring hands-on experience in designing distributed systems or microservices that have scaled in production
  • Have contributed to open-source projects or enjoy staying active in developer communities (e.g., GitHub, Stack Overflow, local meetups)
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of software engineering principles, including clean code, SOLID, and design patterns
  • Think beyond code – considering security, performance, observability, and maintainability from day one
  • Have worked with multiple types of databases and understand how to model data based on real-world needs
