A place to make things happen. Location: Hybrid with travel to schemes and other offices as required. This position covers the North and can be based at our Bradford/Burnley/Stockton offices. Salary: £40,316 per annum (including car allowance). Permanent, 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm.

About the role: As our Health and Safety Advisor for the North, you’ll provide expert health and safety advice and assurance across our social housing operations, helping us meet our legal and regulatory obligations as a housing provider. You'll support managers and colleagues to manage risk effectively within a housing environment, ensuring the safety of both customers and employees while contributing to a strong safety culture across the organisation. This will be achieved through delivering colleague safety training programmes, supporting and advising colleagues in your areas and auditing to a schedule in order to monitor and analyse the performance of the health and safety management system. You'll also be involved in accident investigations and providing a responsive service to colleagues and customers when they need advice on Health and Safety matters.

We're particularly interested in candidates who have experience providing health and safety advice within social housing, local government, healthcare, education, or other public sector environments, where customer safety, regulatory compliance and stakeholder engagement are key priorities. It's an exciting time to join the Health and Safety team due to the changing regulatory landscape in social housing. Your role will make a real impact by improving safety for our customers and colleagues. You'll also support in driving changes to policies and procedures ensuring that we're able to deliver a first class service.

Salary: The spot salary for this post is £39,066 per annum for applicants who fully meet the requirements of the post. If you’re still developing some of the skills or experience, you can start at a salary 5% or 10% below the spot rate, with clear support and progression opportunities to reach the full amount. Plus an essential car user allowance starting at £1,250 per annum.

About you:

  • The essentials: NEBOSH General Certificate. Deep understanding and experience of current UK health & safety legislative and regulatory requirements and how to apply them. Experience of internal auditing or auditing in a variety of health & safety fields. Experience of applying health and safety legislation and risk management principles within a housing, social housing, local authority, healthcare, education or other public sector environment. Experience of providing practical health and safety advice to operational managers in a customer-facing housing or public sector setting. Driven, inquisitive, accountable, open and honest. Taking ownership of situations from beginning to end to ensure the best possible outcome. Fantastic relationship building skills which enables you to build rapport with all stakeholders.
  • The desirables: Experience within the social housing sector is strongly preferred. Experience working within a regulated public sector environment, such as local government, healthcare, education or housing, would also be highly regarded. Ideally you'll have a customer focused mindset. Familiarity with Health & Safety management systems.

The successful applicant will be subject to pre‑employment checks, such as DBS and social media screening, before an offer is confirmed.
