Finance Director Key Responsibilities
Commercial Finance
- Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
- Drive pricing, profitability and margin improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate investment opportunities and business cases.
- Support international financial planning as overseas operations expand.
Financial Management
- Lead the finance function and manage the Bookkeeper.
- Produce monthly management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
- Oversee cash flow, working capital and KPI reporting.
- Monitor profitability and identify performance trends and anomalies.
Financial Control
- Maintain robust financial controls and compliance.
- Manage month‑end and year‑end processes.
- Liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- Oversee VAT, tax compliance and balance sheet reconciliations.
Operational Responsibilities
- Oversee AP, AR, credit control and payroll.
- Improve financial systems, reporting and process automation.
- Support ERP and accounting system optimisation.
Profile
A Successful Finance Director Should Have
- Essential
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
- Experience in a similar senior finance role.
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards.
- Excellent Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Experience of international trading and multi‑currency accounting.
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders.
