The Scottish Government is recruiting finance professionals to join its Financial Management and Reporting team within Financial Management Directorate. Working at the heart of government, our teams enable Ministers and senior leaders to make informed decisions by supporting financial management, reporting, and governance across the organisation.

When delivering statutory reporting and controls, you will work with a wide range of stakeholders to manage financial challenges and opportunities, deliver high quality stewardship of public resources, and support delivery of government priorities.

Responsibilities

Financial Accountant

  • Support the preparation and delivery of the Scottish Government annual accounts, ensuring compliance with corporate timetables and requirements.
  • Coordinate external audit activities, preparing required schedules and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely provision of information.
  • Lead and support finance colleagues to deliver team priorities, including driving improvements to management information and reporting, and balance sheet controls.
  • Provide accounting and financial management advice to build financial capability and support annual accounts and audit process improvements within your team and the Scottish Government.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of transactions and reporting on financial systems, including the Non-Current Asset Register, maintaining effective checks and controls.
  • Support changes arising from the implementation and development of Oracle Cloud finance systems, embedding new ways of working and processes effectively.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must be a fully qualified CCAB or CIMA (or equivalent) accountant with up-to-date CPD.

  • Significant financial management experience, with a track record in delivering processes such as budgeting, forecasting and costing, or financial accounts.
