Joining the Finance team at Sainsbury's offers the unique opportunity to drive impactful financial controls and accounting procedures for Fixed Assets and Property Accounting, ensuring accuracy in Period and Statutory Account entries. As a Finance Manager in this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the business's cost management efforts and fiduciary responsibilities, while overseeing an offshore team to ensure timely completion of key activities. Location: Manchester or Coventry Store Support Centre & Home. Colleagues go into the office 1-2 days per week on average.

As the Finance Manager - Fixed Assets & Property Accounting, you will play a critical role in maintaining accurate accounting controls for both Sainsbury's and Argos Fixed Assets and Capital Ledgers, ensuring precise Period and Statutory Account entries. Your responsibilities will involve:

  • Preparing PPE packs for all entities
  • Managing the offshore team for processing journals in compliance with Group Policy
  • Owning the annual Budget, Forecasts, and 5-year Plan for Depreciation and associated Balance sheet accounts
  • Overseeing the management of Oracle Projects and Fixed Asset Registers, ensuring all processing and interfaces are correctly recognised in the GL
  • Leading the production of various capex / depreciation schedules for period accounts and audit purposes
  • Maintaining a robust financial control environment within the teams
  • Addressing net book values for land and store impairment reviews
  • Acting as the main contact with External Auditors for Fixed Asset queries throughout the year

You are a qualified accountant with a proven track record in maintaining strong financial controls and ensuring accurate accounting procedures within a dynamic retail environment. With experience in managing Oracle systems and leading teams, you possess strong organisational and analytical skills, enabling you to oversee complex financial processes and deliver high-quality outputs. Your commitment to driving change, attention to detail, and ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with stakeholders make you a valuable asset in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and supporting the business in managing costs and fulfilling fiduciary responsibilities.

Essential Criteria:

  • Professional accounting qualification with demonstrable experience applying it in a fast-paced or complex organisational environment, retail is desirable
  • Proven ability to maintain effective financial controls and ensure compliance with relevant processes and standards
  • Demonstrable experience using financial systems, including Oracle or equivalent platforms
  • Evidence of leading, supervising, or developing team members to achieve operational or financial objectives
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in a changing environment
