The Police and Crime Commissioner’s office spends around £20M per annum on providing services to support victims, promote community safety, support the criminal justice system and reduce crime for the whole of the West Midlands. We are looking for a capable, compassionate and empathetic Accountancy Assistant to work on supporting the administration of this spending.

You will be responsible for a variety of activities relating to ordering, receipting and payment of invoices as well as supporting the accountancy team with preparing journals and reconciliations, basic analysis of expenditure and income, and monitoring the progress of invoices through to accounts payable.

You should have experience providing administrative and finance support within a medium to large office environment. Experience of public sector ways of working and an understanding of working with suppliers of services rather than goods and equipment would be a benefit. More importantly though, we expect you to have the ability to work on your own initiative, be a pro-active self-starter and be flexible in your response to changing commitments and deadlines.

A good example of your work will be liaising with our small grant funded bodies. They provide crime prevention and diversion activities to some of the hardest to reach communities. They need understanding, empathy and compassion in our dealings with them, as they focus on the services they provide and are often very small organisations with little time for administration. Your role may be the only one that they directly link in with around their funding and we expect you to be the best representation of the Office, and uphold our standards in relation to customer service at all times.

The West Midlands is a vibrant and diverse part of the country and the Police and Crime Commissioner is committed to equality and diversity. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of diversity and human rights, and a personal commitment to promoting diversity and racial equality.

We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, and specifically offer an interview to all candidates who identify as disabled.

Studies show that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for roles if they believe they do not meet each item of the criteria. So, if you are passionate about this role we encourage you to still apply. You may be exactly who we are looking for.
