Established over 145 years ago, our client is a privately owned Essex based heritage building contractor with an excellent reputation for conservation expertise and quality.

They work across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Kent and Hertfordshire as well as into east, north and central London.

As a stone mason you will be required to cut and shape stonework with a range of hand and power tools, working from templates and moulds, to give it a textured or polished finish (dressing), in accordance with design plans.

You may also be involved in carving figures, lettering or pattern work.

This is a site-based role, working on churches, cathedrals and listed properties and structures in Essex and the surrounding counties including some areas of London.

The candidate is to have a proven track record qualification/experience in stone masonry. The successful candidate should know/be able to:

  • Efficiently and effectively cut out and lay, replace and indent natural stone dressings.
  • Have a good knowledge and experience working with lime mortars, repointing, rebuilding masonry walls.
  • Follow and adhere to Health and Safety policy at all times.
  • Work carefully and methodically.
  • Read drawings and plans.
  • Be accurate with dimensions.
  • Have an eye for detail to ensure quality control and high standards are met.
  • Work as an individual or as part of a team.
