Support Young People to Re-Engage with Learning
Are you passionate about helping children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) achieve their potential? We are working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit in Wokingham to provide specialist alternative provision across Berkshire and the surrounding counties. Due to an increasing number of referrals, we are looking for dedicated, compassionate, and experienced SEN/SEND Tutors to join our growing team. This rewarding role involves delivering personalised one-to-one tuition to pupils who are unable to access mainstream education or require additional support. You will help learners build confidence, develop essential skills, and re-engage with education through tailored and nurturing teaching.
About the Role
As a SEN/SEND Tutor, you will provide bespoke one-to-one tuition to primary and secondary-aged pupils with a range of additional needs. Sessions will be adapted to each learner's individual abilities, interests, and educational goals, supporting both academic progress and emotional wellbeing. Tuition may take place in:
- The pupil's home
- Community settings such as libraries or learning hubs
- Other suitable educational environments
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering personalised lessons tailored to each pupil's needs and learning style
- Supporting pupils to build confidence, resilience, and independence
- Using creative and engaging teaching strategies to promote positive learning experiences
- Adapting resources and lesson content to meet individual needs
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils and their families
- Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback where required
- Supporting pupils to overcome barriers to education and re-engage with learning
- Creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment
Who You Will Be Supporting
You will work with pupils presenting with a range of needs, including:
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
- Anxiety and emotional wellbeing needs
- Communication and interaction difficulties
- Behavioural challenges
- Other additional or complex learning needs
Many pupils will have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and benefit from a flexible, personalised, and relationship-led approach to learning.
About You
We are looking for individuals who have:
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
- Experience delivering one-to-one tuition, teaching, or personalised learning programmes
- A good understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive teaching strategies
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to engage learners who may have become disengaged from education
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) is desirable but not essential for candidates with significant tutoring or SEND experience
