Academics are working in partnership with a forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in Stevenage to appoint a talented and inspirational Art and Design Teacher to join their creative faculty from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate subject specialist to join a well-established and supportive department that values creativity, innovation, and high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential for KS5 depending on experience.

The Role

The successful Art and Design Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and imaginative lessons that inspire students to develop their practical skills, creativity, and confidence in visual expression. You will contribute to a dynamic curriculum that encourages experimentation across a range of media, including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and digital art. You will be joining a collaborative team committed to raising attainment and fostering a strong appreciation of the arts within the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Art & Design lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
  • Develop schemes of work that encourage creativity, technical skill, and critical thinking
  • Assess, track, and report on student progress in line with school policies
  • Support students in preparing portfolios for examination coursework and external assessment
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the Art & Design department
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour, engagement, and achievement
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Contribute to exhibitions, displays, and wider enrichment opportunities (e.g. art clubs, trips, workshops)

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Degree in Art & Design or a closely related subject
  • Strong subject knowledge across a range of artistic disciplines and media
  • Ability to inspire and engage learners of all abilities
  • Experience teaching Art & Design at secondary level (ECTs welcome to apply)
  • Passion for creative education and raising student achievement
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills
