We are supporting a high-performing sixth form college seeking a dedicated and inspiring Teacher of Sociology to join their team on a maternity cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a subject specialist who is passionate about sixth form education and committed to delivering high-quality teaching that supports outstanding student outcomes.
The Role
- Deliver engaging, high-quality Sociology lessons that inspire ambition and promote independent learning
- Teach across sixth form programmes, ensuring strong subject knowledge and curriculum delivery
- Plan and deliver well-structured lessons in line with schemes of work
- Develop high-quality resources that challenge and support all learners
- Use formative and summative assessment effectively to monitor progress and improve outcomes
- Provide regular, constructive feedback to students
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding at all times
Tutor Responsibilities
- Act as a tutor to a group of students, supporting both academic and personal development
- Monitor attendance, effort, and progress, liaising with parents where concerns arise
- Deliver the Personal Development Programme during tutorial time
- Prepare high-quality UCAS references and meet internal deadlines
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate attendance and assessment records
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues
- Attend meetings, parents' evenings, and open events
- Contribute to enrichment and complementary studies programmes
- Provide short-term cover within the department when required
- Engage in CPD, appraisal, and quality assurance processes
The Ideal Candidate
- A qualified teacher with strong subject knowledge in Sociology
- Experience teaching at sixth form / KS5 level (essential)
- A commitment to inclusive practice, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive department
