Are you a caring, dependable PMLD Learning Support Assistant with experience in SEN or care-focused roles? Academics are recruiting PMLD Learning Support Assistants to work on a temporary, ongoing supply basis within specialist SEN schools across Sheffield. As a PMLD Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in calm, structured and highly supportive school environments. This role is ideal for candidates from SEN, care or healthcare backgrounds who are seeking flexible work where they can make a meaningful difference every day.
As a PMLD Learning Support Assistant, you will support pupils with complex physical, medical and learning needs, helping them to access education, routines and daily activities in a safe and dignified way. The role includes a strong hands-on care element, including personal care, sensory support and moving and handling. You will work closely with teachers, therapists and wider support staff to ensure pupils' individual care plans, EHCPs and wellbeing needs are met consistently within a nurturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
- Support with personal care, hygiene routines and physical needs
- Assist with moving and handling in line with training and risk assessments
- Deliver sensory-based and communication-focused activities
- Promote independence, dignity and emotional wellbeing
- Follow EHCPs, care plans and safeguarding procedures
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary SEN team
Qualifications
- Experience supporting children or young people with PMLD or complex needs
- Background in SEN, care, healthcare or support work
- Calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Comfortable carrying out personal care responsibilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS (or willingness to apply)
- Relevant SEN or care qualifications are desirable but not essential
