Academics is a supportive and forward-thinking SEN school that caters for pupils with Autism (ASD) and Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs (SEMH). They are seeking a dedicated SEN Science Teacher to join their team and deliver engaging, adapted lessons that support both academic and personal development.
Position: SEN Science Teacher
Location: Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Contract: Full-time, long-term role (Monday-Friday)
Hours: 8:00am - 3:30pm
Pay: £140 - £220 per day (dependent upon experience, training & qualifications - paid via PAYE)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
As an SEN Science Teacher, you will deliver creative, differentiated lessons across KS3 and KS4 to pupils with ASD and SEMH. You will work within a nurturing, specialised environment where staff collaboration, therapeutic approaches, and pupil-centred practice are central to daily life. Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons tailored to individual learning needs
- Differentiating content for pupils with ASD, SEMH and complex learning profiles
- Create a safe, calm and structured classroom environment
- Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, behaviour specialists and SENCO
- Track progress and contribute to reviews and personalised learning plans
- Uphold safeguarding policies and promote student wellbeing at all times
Candidate Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
- Experience teaching Science within a secondary or SEN setting
- Understanding of ASD, SEMH and trauma-informed approaches
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Calm, resilient and nurturing approach
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
