Academics are an education recruitment agency working in partnership with primary schools across South Wales. We are currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Year 6 Teacher to join a large, welcoming primary school in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about preparing pupils for the transition to secondary school and helping them achieve their full potential during this important stage of their education. The successful candidate will join a supportive teaching team in a school with strong leadership and a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in line with the Year 6 and Key Stage 2 curriculum
  • Support pupils in developing confidence and independence in preparation for secondary school
  • Assess and monitor pupil progress to inform planning and next steps
  • Prepare pupils for national assessments and end-of-Key Stage expectations
  • Create a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, teaching assistants and parents/carers

Minimum requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Academics
  • Previous experience teaching in Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6
  • Strong understanding of the KS2 curriculum and SATs preparation
  • Two professional references from the last two years
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills

  • Pay Rate: per day (inclusive of holiday pay)
  • Higher rates are available dependent upon experience, training, qualifications and client rate available
