Primary SEND Tutor - Ross-on-Wye and Surrounding Areas

Location: Ross-on-Wye and surrounding areas
Phase: Primary / SEND / SEMH
Working arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, patient and experienced Primary SEND Tutor to provide personalised educational support to children across Ross-on-Wye and the surrounding areas. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role will involve providing individualised educational support to primary-aged pupils who may have SEND and/or SEMH needs and who would benefit from a flexible and personalised approach to learning.

You will be expected to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, adapt your teaching to meet their individual needs and help them develop their confidence, engagement and progress. Some pupils may have experienced difficulties accessing mainstream education and require a calm, consistent and encouraging approach.

The successful tutor will be passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and able to create engaging, accessible and supportive learning experiences.

The role may involve

  • Delivering one-to-one or small-group tuition to primary-aged pupils
  • Supporting students across core subjects, particularly English and Maths
  • Supporting pupils with areas of the curriculum appropriate to their age and ability
  • Planning engaging and personalised learning activities
  • Adapting teaching approaches to suit individual abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
  • Supporting pupils with reading, writing, comprehension, spelling and grammar
  • Supporting numeracy, problem-solving and mathematical understanding
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Supporting children with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • Supporting pupils who may have struggled within a traditional school environment
  • Helping pupils re-engage with education in a positive and meaningful way
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
  • Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times

Essential requirements

  • Experience teaching, tutoring or supporting primary-aged children
  • Experience working with children with SEND and/or SEMH needs
  • A good understanding of the primary curriculum, particularly English and Maths
  • Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, accessible and personalised learning
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
  • The ability to adapt teaching and support to meet individual learning needs
  • A genuine commitment to helping children achieve their potential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check, where required
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • You must have the right to work in the UK
