EOTAS Tutor - Minehead Location: Minehead, Somerset Subject: General / Core Subjects Phase: Secondary / EOTAS Working Arrangement: In-person Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced EOTAS Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one educational support to a young person in Minehead. The successful tutor will have experience supporting secondary-aged learners who are accessing Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) provision and may have SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm, structured and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and re-engage with education. Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement, emotionally based school non-attendance or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work. The role may involve: Providing personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged learner accessing EOTAS provision. Supporting the learner with their academic and educational development across relevant subjects. Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support. Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs. Breaking down complex concepts into manageable and accessible steps. Supporting literacy, numeracy, study skills and independent learning where appropriate. Supporting GCSE preparation and examination skills where relevant. Helping the learner develop positive attitudes towards education and learning. Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment. Supporting a learner who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education. Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence. Encouraging engagement and gradually building positive learning routines. Using the learner's interests, strengths and preferred learning styles to make sessions engaging and accessible. Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, school avoidance or challenging behaviour. Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required. Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback. Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner. Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education. Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality. Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person. Essential requirements: Experience working with secondary-aged learners. Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support. Experience supporting learners who have barriers to mainstream education. Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs. Experience supporting learners with anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement would be desirable. Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach. Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people. Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education. Strong communication and organisational skills. Reliable and consistent approach to work. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The right to work in the UK.
