A welcoming primary school in Huddersfield is urgently seeking a caring, experienced and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a new pupil joining the school. The successful candidate will provide individualised support to a Year 3 pupil who is currently working within the Year 1 curriculum and requires additional support with both his learning and physical access around school. The pupil has additional needs which are currently being assessed. He requires support with his learning and may also need assistance with movement around the school, particularly when navigating stairs and uneven surfaces.

The Role

  • Provide individualised support with learning and classroom activities.
  • Help the pupil access the curriculum at an appropriate level.
  • Encourage confidence, independence and engagement in learning.
  • Support movement around the school safely, including navigating stairs and uneven surfaces.
  • Provide a calm, patient and nurturing presence throughout the school day.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Work as part of a wider team to support his individual needs and development.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN/additional needs.
  • A patient, caring and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence supporting a child with learning and/or physical needs.
  • Ability to build a strong, positive relationship with the pupil.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with teaching staff.
  • Experience can be professional or personal - we are happy to consider applicants who have supported a child with additional needs through their own personal experience, provided they can demonstrate the relevant skills and understanding.
