Are you an experienced SENCo looking to make a lasting impact in a Mainstream school in Portsmouth? Do you have the passion and expertise to support children and young people with autism to achieve their full potential? A Mainstream school in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced SENCo to join their dedicated team. The school is a large Primary school with a specialised SEN Unit for children with autism and other SEN needs, providing a nurturing, structured environment where every pupil is encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.
This is an exciting opportunity for a SENCo to lead and develop the school's SEND provision, working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, families and external agencies to ensure every pupil receives the highest standard of support. You will play a key role in driving inclusive practice, monitoring progress and ensuring statutory responsibilities are met.
The successful SENCo will have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- The National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo), or be willing to work towards it if applicable
- Previous experience working as a SENCo or within a SEND leadership role
- A strong understanding of autism and effective strategies to support pupils with additional needs
- Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills
- A genuine passion for improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND
