Quantum Scholars is looking for a calm, compassionate and reliable Family Support Assistant to work with a family in Wokingham.
The role will involve providing practical and emotional support to the family of a highly anxious young person who is currently receiving their education through an EOTAS arrangement.
This is a relationship-based role where consistency, patience and sensitivity are extremely important.
You will help create a supportive environment around the young person while also assisting their family with some of the practical day-to-day demands of home life (i. e. tidying) and education outside of a traditional school setting.
The role may involve
- Building a positive, trusting relationship with the young person and their family.
- Providing practical support to help the family manage day-to-day routines and education-related activities.
- Supporting the family with general household tasks where needed, such as tidying, organising shared spaces and other light practical duties.
- Being willing to take a flexible and hands-on approach to supporting the family with everyday tasks that help create a calm and organised home environment.
- Supporting the young person to engage with learning, activities and their wider EOTAS provision where appropriate.
- Helping to reduce barriers to engagement by providing calm, consistent and reassuring support.
- Accompanying or supporting the young person with activities in the home or community where required.
- Working closely with parents or carers and other professionals involved in the young person's education and wellbeing.
- Encouraging independence, confidence and positive routines at an appropriate pace.
- Observing and communicating any changes, concerns or progress to the relevant professionals.
- Maintaining clear professional boundaries while developing a warm and supportive working relationship.
- Following safeguarding procedures at all times.
Essential requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people, ideally within education, SEND, pastoral support, family support, youth work or a similar setting.
- A calm, patient and empathetic approach, particularly when supporting a young person experiencing high levels of anxiety.
- A practical, flexible attitude and willingness to support with general household tasks as part of the wider family support role.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to work sensitively and professionally with parents, carers and other professionals.
- Reliability, consistency and the ability to work independently within agreed boundaries.
- Availability to work 2.5 hours per morning, 4 mornings per week.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality.
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
- You must have the right to work in the UK.
