Could you be the calm, consistent and encouraging adult who helps a child believe in themselves?
Academics are recruiting multiple Trauma Behaviour Mentors in Havering to support primary-aged pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who understands that behaviour can be a form of communication and that some children need extra patience, reassurance and structure to thrive. The school promotes an inclusive, caring environment where pupils are encouraged to build resilience, recognise their strengths and make progress socially and academically.
What will you be doing?

- Providing individual and small-group mentoring.
- Supporting children with challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
- Helping pupils recognise emotional triggers and develop coping strategies.
- Using a calm, trauma-informed approach with clear, consistent boundaries.
- Encouraging positive choices, confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
- Working alongside teachers to provide consistent support and celebrate progress.
Who would be a great fit?
We're looking for someone passionate about children's mental health and wellbeing. Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, trauma-related challenges or behavioural difficulties would be particularly beneficial.
You may have worked as a Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Pastoral Support Worker, Youth Worker or in a similar role.
You'll bring patience, empathy, emotional resilience, strong communication skills and a fair, non-judgemental approach.
Why apply?
- 93- 120 per day
- ASAP start until July 2027, with permanent potential
- Multiple vacancies available
- Parking and convenient train links
